International Court of Justice

International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946.

The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands). Of the six principal organs of the United Nations, it is the only one not located in New York (United States of America).

The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.

Eliška Stroehlein

Director

Eliška is a second year English Law and French Law student at King’s College London, and this year’s co-director of the International Court of Justice at NottsMUN. Having started MUN while in high school (and not shut up about it since) Eliška’s conference journey has taken her through many committees around the World, meeting loads of incredible people along the way (an experience she hopes to continue at NottsMUN 2018). Given her degree, it is not surprising that she found a passion for ICJ at LIMUN a few months ago and has been itching to do it again ever since. When she’s not debating or crying about Law school, you can find Eliška playing badminton, analysing song lyrics or looking at dogs online.

Chloe Deng

Chloe Deng

Director

Chloe is third year Law student at the University of Bristol. She first got involved with MUN at the age of 14, back in Israel. She then moved to Hong Kong and founded the MUN Club at her new school. Chloe has attended multiple conferences across three continents where she has undertaken various roles, such as a Delegate, Judge, Chair and Secretariat. She currently serves as the President of the University of Bristol Model United Nations Society. Away from the MUN sphere, she loves cooking, playing tennis (and most racquet sports), dancing and singing. She has a fairly unhealthy obsession with pandas and loves eating chicken wings (especially KFC hot wings!). She’s an Asian that lacks the “Asian flush”, who’s small but lethal.
